FRENCH BULLDOG
Apartment-friendly, low-exercise, big personality — with a health-testing checklist most breeders skip.
French Bulldogs are the city dog. Small enough for apartments, low-energy enough for non-runners, charismatic enough to make everyone they meet a fan.
They're also the breed most likely to come with expensive health problems if their parents weren't health-tested. That's the part responsible buyers care about — and the part backyard breeders skip.
What we test before breeding
If you're considering a Frenchie from us:
BOAS scoring — Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome. Parents must score in the low end before they're in our program.
Hip and spine X-rays — Frenchies are prone to intervertebral disc disease and hip issues; we screen for both.
Genetic panel — DM, JHC, HUU, and breed-specific genetic markers cleared on both parents.
Eye CERF — annual screening, available on request.
A Frenchie from health-tested parents costs more upfront. Saves you in vet bills and heartbreak for the next 10 years.
Programs that fit
Frenchies don't need heavy work — they need socialization and basic manners. Puppy Foundations is the right starting point for any Frenchie under 6 months. Basic Obedience from there to lock in the manners.
They also need regular grooming, especially face folds — that's where Laura's grooming service is doing more than aesthetic work. Untreated face folds are a vet bill waiting to happen.
What to watch for
Heat sensitivity. Brachycephalic breeds overheat fast. Oklahoma summers mean indoor exercise and watching for distress signals.
Surgical history. A surprising number of Frenchies need at least one surgery in their first few years. Budget for it.
Stubbornness disguised as charm. They learn fast. They also choose what to do with that learning. Consistency matters more than repetition.

Climate management. Air conditioning. No long midday walks in summer. Watch for labored breathing — they'll push themselves until something's wrong.
Weight control. Frenchies put on weight easily, and extra weight makes every breathing and joint issue worse.
Routine grooming. Face folds cleaned weekly. Nail trims regularly. Coat brushing simple but consistent. Their grooming is medical, not cosmetic.
Companion energy. They want to be with you. Apartment life works because they don't need yards — they need couches with you on them.
